Meet �ֲ��ý's Newest Students: Class of 2029 Profile

Many of �ֲ��ý University’s approximately 1,500 first-year students moved into their residence halls Friday morning.

Nearly 3,000 undergraduate students will live in university housing in Galloway Township and in �ֲ��ý’s two residence halls in Atlantic City this semester.

Here are some interesting facts about the 2025-26 first-year class.

Supports First-Year STEM Students

Endry Espinoza-Abreu didn’t mind starting her �ֲ��ý studies two weeks early this semester.

Part of the first cohort of a new program designed to provide first-year students with stronger foundational math skills, Espinoza-Abreu said it was the perfect first step of her collegiate journey, helping her gain confidence both personally and academically.

“I definitely feel more confident in talking to other people first instead of waiting for them to talk to me,” said Espinoza-Abreu of Lakeland, Florida, who is pursuing a Biochemistry major. “And, with math, it’s not that I didn’t know how to do math at all; it was more that I doubted myself. The homework that they give us is starting to become a lot easier, and I’m starting to feel more confident in understanding it all.”

Soar First is a summer bridge program that has, so far, supported 13 first-year students who were conditionally accepted into �ֲ��ý’s natural science, health science and computer science majors.

🎀 🎥 👩‍⚕️ Film Screening of ‘Link to Pink’ Sept. 21

�ֲ��ý University Atlantic City will host “Link to Pink,” a film screening and panel discussion with local medical professionals to kickoff Breast Cancer Awareness Month at 1 p.m. Sept. 21.

“Link to Pink” is open to the public and will include the screening of the award-winning film, “Love, Danielle,” followed by a Q&A with Devin Sidell, co-writer and star, and Amy Byer Shainman, the BRCA Responder and executive producer. The film was recently selected as part of the Garden State Film Festival’s “Best of the Fest” outreach program.

A panel discussion with local genetic counselors and medical professionals from AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute, South Jersey Breast Cancer Coalition, who specialize in breast cancer and BRCA gene mutations, and Breast Center of New Jersey (BCNJ) - comprised of doctors affiliated with The Premier Surgical Network, The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction and The Plastic Surgery Center, will take place after the screening. Also, information and representatives from local organizations such as �ֲ��ý’s Wellness Center, JScreen Genetic Screening and Cancer Support Community NJ at Gilda’s Club, will be available to answer questions and offer resources.

�ֲ��ý Blanks DeSales 3-0

The men’s soccer team exploded for three late goals and shut out DeSales University 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The Ospreys outshot the Bulldogs 22-4 and scored three times in the last 16 minutes of the game.

Aiden Hoenisch led �ֲ��ý with a goal and an assist. Ernst Louisius and Chris Krallnetted one goal apiece.

Hoenisch got the Ospreys on the board at 74:19 with an assist by Joseph A. Carbone. Louisius made it 2-0 with 8:21 remaining, and Krall capped the 3-0 triumph 2:16 later with an assist from Uche Wokocha.

�ֲ��ý goalkeeper Brady Bartletta made three saves for his 14th career shutout and first of the season. DeSales goalie Jimmy Shensky finished with six stops for the home team.

The team’s next game will be against NYU at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at New Jersey Instituteof Technology in Newark.

�ֲ��ý Draws with Drew

The women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 against Drew University on Sept. 3. Logan Shawnetted the Ospreys’ lone goal of the contest.

�ֲ��ý took control during the first half, outshooting the Rangers 10-2 in the period. The match was scoreless until a foul in the penalty area gave the Ospreys a penalty kick. Shaw converted her first goal of the season for a 1-0 lead, which lasted until halftime.

The visitors broke through when Sophia Lara scored off a pass from Maeve O’Murchuin the 81st minute to tie the game at 1-1. Makayla Jaffehad one last opportunity with four seconds left, but her shot sailed just wide and the match ended in a draw.

Morgan Keil made four saves in net for �ֲ��ý, while Dani Iannelli finished with three stops for the Rangers.

�ֲ��ý will play in the Drew Fall Festival in Madison, New Jersey, this weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Ospreys will face Ithaca College at 2:30 p.m., then take on Farmingdale State on Sunday, also at 2:30 p.m.

�ֲ��ý Adopts Coursedog for Academic Operations

�ֲ��ý University has partnered with Coursedog to implement a cloud-based application to modernize academic operations. This new system will replace the University’s current manual scheduling and curriculum management process.

Coursedog will also be used to publish the public-facing University catalog, Program handbooks and offer enhanced integration with our student information system. The Coursedog internal core planning team will work closely with academic schools, program faculty and administrative offices to develop a more efficient and effective process for managing scheduling, course, program and section updates.

Updates to Office of Disbursement Services

Jennifer Potter, Senior Vice President for Administration & Finance and Chief Financial Officer, shared the following message Aug. 29:

I am writing to inform you of an important administrative update regarding the Office of Disbursement Services. Effective immediately, Payroll operations will report to Dr. Craig Bickley, Chief Human Resources Officer, within the Office of Human Resources, while Accounts Payable will be overseen by Stacey O’Brien, Controller, in Fiscal Affairs.

For procurement-related matters regarding public bidding, please direct your inquiries to Regina Rosenello, Interim Director of Procurement, Contracting, and Risk Management. Contact details for other procurement-related concerns remain unchanged.

Please be assured that services and support will proceed without disruption throughout this transition.

It’s Time to Confirm Your Ospreys!

Welcome back, faculty! As the fall semester is underway, it's almost time to Confirm your Ospreys.

Faculty are reminded to complete the Academic Engagement process by confirming student attendance/academic activity beginning after the add/drop period on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The Academic Engagement process is to be completed by Wednesday, Sept. 17. The Office of Financial Aid will use this information to make adjustments to student financial aid disbursements based upon each student's confirmed number of credits.

Each instructor will be responsible for confirming student attendance or participation in an academic activity. For online courses, faculty are reminded to include an assignment or discussion activity during the add/drop period so that the student's attendance can be confirmed.

POLLING ALL OSPREYS

According to last week's poll, it appears that Ospreys definitely want to savor some more of summer, with 58.3% voting for 🌞 "more summer, please". "Pumpkins and flannels" 🎃 scored 25%, and "ready for routine" 📝 scored 16.7%. For our summer chasers, thank goodness, these September days have been stunning. Here's hoping for more!
